TRIOPTICS enhances waveguide measurement technology for Augmented Reality optics with new upgrades
Comprehensive evaluation of image quality with just one system, including MTF, distortion, color, luminance, veiling glare, and relative efficiency

TRIOPTICS improves the characterization of image quality for Augmented Reality (AR) optical components with the ImageMaster® Lab AR Flex. New upgrades enable a comprehensive evaluation of AR optics performance with just one system.
Until now, separate systems were often required to measure parameters such as color and luminance as part of image quality assessment. The new optional upgrades integrate these critical evaluations seamlessly, simplifying the workflow, increasing productivity, and enabling a deeper understanding of how the AR waveguide modifies the spectrum of the in-coupled light. The TRIOPTICS ImageMaster® Lab AR Flex achieves accurate and reliable results through the use of advanced spectrometry and photometric filter with a V(λ) response.
The evolving AR waveguide technology leads to increasing complexity of requirements for optical measurement technology. Not only color and brightness but also subtle imperfections can significantly impact the immersive experience. TRIOPTICS addresses this with upgrades to measure parameters such as Veiling Glare and Relative Flux (relative efficiency), which are crucial for a flawless immersive experience without distracting haze or uneven light distribution. Using intensity measurements with a specialized grid, the extended system detects and quantifies these critical performance parameters, qualifying the test samples for high-end AR applications. Existing ImageMaster® Lab AR Flex users can benefit from the advantages of these upgrades, as they can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems.
"The integration of additional measurement parameters such as color, luminance, veiling glare, relative efficiency measurement upgrade in the ImageMaster® Lab AR Flex marks a milestone in the development of imaging quality measurement for high-end AR optics and components, such as waveguides, light engines, and modules," explains Mohit Yadav, Product Manager at TRIOPTICS.
TRIOPTICS has been shaping the development of measurement technology for AR optics components for many years. The ImageMaster® Lab AR Flex is positioned as a future-proof solution, offering a wide range of measurement parameters around MTF measurement to evaluate diffractive and reflective AR waveguides, glasses, light engines, and complete AR modules. The system uses diffraction-limited optics to achieve the highest measurement accuracy. An automated measurement sequence for multiple batches of samples can also be supported by a robotic loading station upgrade.
